Steven Spitz, M.D. is a board certified internationally known neurosurgeon providing leading edge minimally disruptive surgeries to treat disorders of the spine and brain. He received his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then completed his Surgical Internship and Neurosurgical Residency training at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. During his neurosurgical training, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University where he helped develop a spine trauma model for the Department of Defense. He then went on to complete a complex spine fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Spitz then returned to Georgetown University Hospital to serve as an Associate Professor before returning home to Atlanta to join Southeastern Neurosurgical Specialists. He currently serves as the Director of Neurosurgery for Northside Hospital.
Dr. Spitz is recognized in the field of minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. He has authored numerous scholarly publications and book chapters. Dr. Spitz has given lectures and presentations teaching various surgical techniques both nationally and internationally. He has also been the recipient of multiple awards for both teaching and compassionate patient care.
