  • Kumar Vasudevan MD
    Dr. Kumar Vasudevan

    Dr. Kumar Vasudevan, MD is a fellowship-trained, board-eligible neurosurgeon who treats a wide variety of brain and spinal conditions. His interest in neurosurgery began when he was a child after his grandmother had to have a brain tumor removed. The compassion his grandmother’s neurosurgeon showed his family stuck with him as the surgeon shepherded his family through the entire process of diagnosis to surgery to recovery. Dr. Vasudevan strives to treat his own patients and their families in the same manner, and to be the “home base” for his patients, their families, and their doctors when it comes to brain and spine care.

    Dr. Kaveh Khajavi

    Dr Khajavi’s Curriculum Vitae

    Dr. Khajavi received his undergraduate degree from Emory University in 1985, and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1989, through a scholarship from the US Air Force. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1996. Dr. Khajavi returned to active duty and served in the Department of Neurosurgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Khajavi was the first Air Force officer to ever be given an appointment in the department of Neurosurgery at Walter Reed. While there he served as the Chief of Epilepsy and Functional Surgery sections. He held an appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and also held a secondary appointment in the department of Neurology. Shortly after his return to Atlanta in 2002, he founded Georgia Spine & Neurosurgery Center, which is now located on the campus of Northside Atlanta hospital.

    Dr. Jim Robinson

    James (Jim) Robinson, M.D. is a board certified and nationally recognized neurosurgeon providing the most leading edge brain surgery. The hallmark of his expertise includes Cranial Microsurgery, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and Endoscopic Cranial Surgery. Jim treats patients with brain, pituitary, and base of skull tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, and Chiari malformation. This narrow focus of dedication leads to expert, attentive care and is his personal mission in life. Dr. Robinson’s outcomes dramatically exceed the national average. His complexity adjusted case mortality has ranged from 27-29% of predicted on the basis of par data (average) on a national level, with significantly better than average length of stay and readmission rates, reflecting a smooth post-operative course for his patients.

  • Dr. Tariq Javed
    Dr. Tariq Javed

    Dr. Javed obtained his medical degree from the Birmingham University School of of Medicine, Birmingham, England. He completed house office jobs at Birmingham Accident Hospital and Leicester University Hospital in England. He completed his written examination for Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.

    After internship at St Agnes Hospital in Baltimore he completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Javed completed a fellowship in cranial base and microsurgery with Professor Peter Jannetta and Professor Laligam Sekhar at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

  • Dr. Steven Spitz
    Dr. Steven Spitz

    Steven Spitz, M.D. is an internationally known neurosurgeon providing leading edge minimally disruptive surgeries to treat disorders of the spine and brain. He received his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then completed his Surgical Internship and Neurosurgical Residency training at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. During his neurosurgical training, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University where he helped develop a spine trauma model for the Department of Defense. He then went on to complete a complex spine fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Spitz then returned to Georgetown University Hospital to serve as an Associate Professor before returning home to Atlanta to join Southeastern Neurosurgical Specialists.

  • Kelly Futral, PA
    Kelly Futral, PA

    Kelly Futral is a nationally certified Physician Assistant specializing in neurosurgery at SoutheasternNeurosurgical Specialists. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Auburn University inAuburn, Alabama. She then obtained a Master of Clinical Medical Science for Physician Assistant at BarryUniversity in Miami, Florida. She worked as the Anatomy Lab teaching assistant during her time at BarryUniversity. She worked in vascular surgery following PA school in Athens, GA and then moved to Atlanta,GA to begin her career in neurosurgery. Kelly explains, “I feel lucky to work with such an amazing patientpopulation. Most patients are very apprehensive about coming to our office, as many of them have justlearned they have a diagnosis of a brain lesion. One of the things I enjoy most about my job is helpingpatients and families feel comfortable, safe, and establishing that they are not embarking on theirjourney alone.” She is affiliated with the Georgia Academy of Physician Assistants and the AmericanAcademy of Physician Assistants. She is certified by the National Commission for Certification ofPhysician Assistants. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family.

  • Laura Dyal, NP
    Laura Dyal, NP

    Laura Dyal is a Nurse Practitioner who treats patients and assists in surgery with Dr. Tariq Javed. She attended Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University in Atlanta, GA where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Prior to becoming a NP she worked in a variety of critical care settings including med/surg, cardiac, open heart, trauma and neurosciences. While working in the neuroscience intensive care unit, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. Laura is a Board Certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensed in Georgia. She has worked primarily in the neurosurgical setting.

  • Patty Braun, PA
    Patty Braun, PA

    Patrice “Patty” Braun PA-C is a Physician Assistant, who works closely with Dr. Kaveh Khajavi to provide excellent patient care for their patients.

    Patty grew up in Hahira, Ga, where her family has a cattle farm. While her 3 siblings worked on the farm projects, Patty worked closely with her father, who was a General Surgeon. She shadowed him through high school and started working as his scrub tech during her undergraduate career at Valdosta State University learning a lot about surgery and patient care. Patty credits her father with a lot of what she has learned in healthcare from bedside manner, first assisting in surgery, to proper medical ethics.
